Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 31 January 2025

Friday

Weather

A disappointing downturn in the Friday forecast, means that we are in for a wet first half of the morning. And the winds are looking slightly stronger than previously expected too. The early morning rain will come with a force 5 SW’ly. Then the clearance from rain to sunshine will come with a force 4 NW’ly late morning and lunchtime, followed by a force 3 N’ly through the rest of the afternoon. Max temps should be similar to Thursday (9°C), then the starry night min will be 3-4°C as the wind falls calm.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 4 foot surf at dawn, getting choppy by late morning and then slightly cleaner by dusk. The earlier the better if you’re a windsurfer or a kitesurfer. Tides will be high at 7:50am (9.3m) and low at 2:15pm. Swimming conditions will be best on the east coast in the morning and then the south coast in the afternoon.

Saturday

Weather

A cloudier day than Friday, perhaps even a little misty around late morning and lunchtime. Still quite bright at times though and at least it will be nice and dry. Winds will be light force 3 SE’ly for the most part, perhaps even light force 2 in the morning, so it should feel very comfortable, although the temperature will be unremarkable, with a max of just 8°C.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3 foot surf. The north and west coasts will be best if you’re keen for a swim, especially during the morning. Tides will be high at 8:30am (9.5m) and low at 2:55pm.

Sunday

Weather

The sunniest day of the weekend by a country mile. Furthermore, the wind will be decreasing through the day, having started with a force 3-4 SE’ly, we should end up with a barely noticeable force 1-2 S’ly. Daytime temperatures should therefore do a little better than Saturday… peaking this around 10°C. Colder at night though, with a still and starry min of just 3°C and a ground frost in places.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf again, this time it will be about 5-6 feet. Swimming conditions will be smooth on all coasts, but it would probably be best to stay away from the surf, because the tidal currents and the rips will be strong on this occasion. High water will be 9.4m at 9:10am. Low water will be at 3:30pm.

Next Week

Weather

Nice and settles compared to the previous week. Tuesday night threatens a little rain, but the rest of the week is looking dry, with winds starting off S’ly on Monday and Tuesday, flipping NE’ly on Wednesday, then SE’ly through Thursday and Friday. Never especially strong… generally force 3-4, maybe just the odd moment of fresh force 5. Temperatures generally peaking between 8 and 11°C, just depending on the daily combos of wind-strength and sunshine-hours.

Surf and the Water

Clean surf every day, pretty big through the first half of the week (5-8 feet), then likely smaller through the second (3-4 feet). Tides will be high mid-morning on Monday, and then creep forward each day, until they are at lunchtime on Thursday and Friday (gradually shrinking from roughly 9m to 7m).
