Thursday
Weather
It’s the day of the Vernal Equinox, when the baton of summer is passed from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern. Of course, in this part of the world, it takes quite a long time to shake off the winter. In fact it’s such a long transitional period that it gets its own season, which we lovingly know as Spring. As such, it couldn’t be more appropriate to kick off with the warmest day of the year so far… a max temp of 16 or 17°C depending on your precise location. Weather-wise, we will have pure sunshine until some high cloud spreads in late afternoon, to give us an extra colourful sunset. Winds will be force 3-4 ESE’ly, pretty much the same as the previous day, therefore feeling most comfortable in the same places, which is mainly in the western parishes.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 1-2 foot surf at dawn, diminishing to almost nothing as the day progresses. Swimming conditions will be best in the west, but the other coasts will also be better than other days of late. Tides will be 7.8m high around 9:30am, then low around 3:45pm.
Friday
Weather
A few bright spells, but generally very cloudy, with occasional showers. Some of those showers could be heavy, but equally the heavy ones might miss us and only leave us with spits and spots. The air will still be mild, holding steady around 13-14°C, but possibly slipping up to 15°C if we are blessed with some afternoon sunshine. Winds will be moderate force 4 ESE’ly for the most part, which is virtually the same as the previous two days.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf, but good swimming conditions, especially on the west coast. Tides will be 7.3m high around 10am and then low around 4:15pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Cooler air over the Islands, but if we get lucky with wind and weather then it might actually feel quite warm at times. The reason I talk about getting lucky, is that through both days, the area will be covered by a very random mix of cloud sunshine and showers… all swilling around a shallow area of low pressure. Winds will likely come from the south on Saturday and the north on Sunday, but the strength could be anything from a barely noticeable force 2 to rather cool feeling force 4. If the lightest winds marry up with the clearest sky, then max temps could be as much as 15°C on Saturday and 13°C on Sunday. However, if we have mostly cloudy skies, occasional showers and moderate winds, then we will probably see max temps as low as 12°C and 10°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf on Saturday, but hopefully some 3-4 foot waves on Sunday. Those waves will probably be nice and clean, because the wind will most likely be light, even though it’s very uncertain which direction it will be coming from. High tides will be high 6.9m at 10:45am on Saturday, then 6.5m at midday on Sunday. Low tides will be shortly before dawn and dusk.
Next Week
Weather
A generally cool week, due to the winds blowing from a N’ly direction throughout… sometimes NE’ly, sometimes NW’ly. These winds never look particularly strong though. Therefore, just like the weekend, with a rather random mix of cloudy spells and sunny spells (only the most isolated shower here and there), we could luck into some unremarkable but perfectly comfortable spring-like conditions. The south coast will always be the cream of the crop. Typical max temps will be around 11°C, typical min temps around 7°C.
Surf and the Water
Monday and Tuesday’s surf looks pretty tiny and weak, but from Wednesday onward, we should enjoy some cleanish 2-3 foot waves. The tidal range will be very small at the start of the week, but pretty big by the end. High tides will increase from 6.3m on Monday afternoon, to 9.1m on Friday evening.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday morning…
