Tuesday
Weather
Pure sunshine. The main detail to mention is regarding the wind… a fresh force 5 E’ly, which is really going to put the brakes on the temperature rise, probably meaning that we don’t climb as high as on Monday. The initial dawn temperature will be higher, probably about 9-10°C, but then the max will only be about 14°C, rather than 15-16°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 2 foot surf, regrettably spoilt by the strength of the offshore wind. Whopping tides, which will be a bit messy on the east coast due to the onshore wind there. The west coast will be good for swimming around breakfast time though, when the water is nice and smooth due to being right up against the walls. Those tides will be about 9.8m high at 9:30am and then low around 3:50pm.
Wednesday
Weather
An almost identical day to Tuesday, except for a small shift in the direction of the wind, still fresh force 5, but this time coming from the ENE. Thus bringing no continental influence whatsoever, so probably a degree cooler than on Tuesday (just 13°C for the max) and certainly feeling more chilly in exposure.
Surf and the Water
Really weak 1-2 foot waves, completely overpowered by the strength of the cross-offshore wind. The best swimming spots will either be the north ends of the west-coast bays, or at the east end of the south-coast bays. Tides will be about 9.3m high at 10:05am and then low around 4:25pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A warmer wind on Thursday, despite relatively cloudy skies and possibly a few spots of rain here and there. This time the wind will be a force 3-4 ESE’ly, so the influence of the warmer continent should take the temperature up to about 16°C for the max. Likewise for the max temp on Friday, but on that occasion it will be with a super-sunny day, balanced by a force 4-5 E’ly. On both occasions, the most sheltered spots will be in the west coast bays, just beneath the sea walls.
Surf and the Water
Miniscule surf, almost flat, but maybe just about longboardable on Thursday, when the wind will be slightly lighter and more perfectly offshore than the previous days. Swimming conditions will be best along the west coast both days, and also the north coast on Thursday… once again, as close to high tide as possible. Tides will be high in the late mornings (8.6m and 7.7m respectively) and then low in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Rather like on Wednesday, with the wind direction changing to more of a NE’ly (still on the strong side too… force 5 or maybe even 6), the temperature will be heavily moderated by the coolness of the mid-Channel waters. Max temps only around 13°C, but the skies will be beautifully sunny, so it will still feel gorgeous in tall-walled sun-trap gardens.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf again, but decent enough swimming conditions if you aim for high tide… either in those northern corners of the west-coast bays, or in those eastern corners of the south-coast bays. Tidal movements will be tiny, quite the contrast from the previous weekend… 6.8m high lunchtime Saturday and 6.4m high lunchtime Sunday.
The next forecast update will be on Thursday or Friday…
