Monday
Weather
After a Sunday of W’ly winds and the lower temperatures that they tend to bring in the spring, we can now enjoy a day of gentle SSE’ly breezes and a pleasant max of 14°C. Much like Sunday, however, we will see some soft sunshine through the morning and lunchtime, followed by increasing cloud through the rest of the day. The greatest uncertainty of the day is whether the showers, which will be plentiful to the west of the Islands, will drop some of their load on us as well. The chance of this will be greatest between around 5pm and 8pm, but it may come an hour or two earlier, or later or possibly miss us altogether. Some rain would be very welcome though, after what has been a very dry spring so far.
Surf and the Water
Super clean 3 foot surf on the west coast, but quite a large tide to work around. High water will be about 9m at 8:20am and 8:30pm. Low water will be at 2:40pm. Swimmers will find the smoothest water in the north and west coast bays.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Tuesday looks like the wettest day of the week, but the uncertainty in this case is whether the showers will take the lions’ share of the day, or whether the dry interludes will last much longer. There will be barely a breath of wind in the morning, which means that the showers could be prolonged. Then, in the afternoon and evening, we will have a strengthening NW’ly wind, probably getting up to strong force 7, which will feel realy quite unpleasant, but it does at least promise to move the showers along swiftly. Wednesday will then be a much more straightforward affair, not especially warm (only scraping 12-13°C) but dry and partly sunny, with a force 3-4 W’ly breeze.
Surf and the Water
The surf will pick up to 4 feet but the only time that it will be clean is on Tuesday morning. The latter part of Tuesday will be good for windsurfing and kitesurfing though, and then Wednesday will be good for sea-swims over on the east coast. High tides will be 8.8m at 8:45am Tuesday and 8.6m at 9:15am Wednesday. Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Sunshine and showers both days, although those showers will probably organise themselves into distinct bands that pass over the Islands quite quickly, leaving long periods of dryness in between. The timing is not possible to pin down at this stage, so there’s a chance that the wetness will all come in the night, but it would probably wouldn’t be wise to expect such luck. Winds will be lightest on Thursday morning… just a light force 2 SSW’ly. Through the rest of the time, the wind will probably be a force 4 S’ly, but there is a chance it could slip up to fresh force 5 for a time. Windy or not, the temperature should be taking a subtle climb day on day, so we are probably looking at a 14°C max for Thursday, followed by a 15°C max for Friday.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf both days… 3 feet on Thursday and then just 1-2 feet on Friday. Swimming conditions will be smooth on all coasts Thursday morning, then confined to the north and west through the rest of the time. High tides will be in the mid-mornings… 8.2m and 7.8m respectively. Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Force 3-4 NW’ly winds on Saturday, will lead to a bit of a dive in the temperature, but as the wind relaxes on Sunday, things should hopefully level out. Both days should see a couple of showers, punctuated by plenty of sunshine. However, much like the previous days, the timings are completely uncertain.
Surf and the Water
3-4 foot surf nearly every day, perhaps a little bigger on Wednesday. However, Wednesday is the only day that looks likely to be choppy. All other days should be lovely and clean. Tides will be high in the mornings (decreasing from around 9m on Monday to a little less than 8m on Friday). Low tides will be in the afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday…
