Saturday
Weather
This is the only day of this forecast period with a bit of rain in it, so we should be grateful for the love that it imparts to our beautiful trees and flowers, especially as it will only be during the morning and there will barely be a breath of wind to come with it. Moving into the afternoon, cloud will gradually break up and clear, such that the evening is the sunniest time of day. The breeze will be a light force 3 N’ly during those brighter hours, so the south coast will feel loveliest. Max temps around 14°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be about 5 feet and clean. A bit of a classic day, with a medium-large tidal range lending itself perfectly to certain reefs. High water will be about 9m at 6am and 9.1m at 6:30pm. Low tide will be at lunchtime.
Sunday
Weather
Mostly sunny and calm… just a light force 1-2 N’ly breeze, barely detectable at all. This wind direction does however mean that we will be immune from continental influence, and slightly more at the mercy of mid-Channel influences. This means that the odd bank of sea fog could drift ashore at times, probably not penetrating much further than L’Ancresse Common, but nonetheless spoiling the sunshine in those northern locations. Head south for the highest temperatures, which will probably be about 16°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 3-4 foot surf… another real treat for surfers, but with a larger tidal range to navigate. Swimming conditions will be gorgeous too, on all coasts but especially the south. High water will be about 9.4m at 7am and 7:20pm. Low tide will be at lunchtime again.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
The consistent E’ly wind (force 3-4) will bring increasingly warm continental air, with almost unadulterated sunshine. Daily max temps should be about 18°C, 20°C and 22°C respectively. Nightly min temps around 12°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be super-clean throughout, but a bit smaller than the weekend I’m afraid… most likely 3 feet on Monday, 1 foot on Tuesday, then 2 feet on Wednesday. Swimming conditions will generally be best in the west. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dusk, varying between 9.3m and 9.7m. Low tides will be in the early to mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday morning may be as sunny as the previous days, but the afternoon and then Friday will be cloudier, with thundery showers developing over France and large swathes of cloud shearing off and spreading across the Channel. Sunshine will still filter through, but in a rather muted and momentary fashion. Temperatures could be as high as the previous days if I turn out to be wrong about this cloud development. However, if the story pans out as expected then we will probably see a reversal of the previous days’ trend… meaning that the max temps will be roughly 20°C and 18°C respectively. Winds should be very light throughout, so it should feel lovely and warm, whatever the precise numbers turn out to be.
Surf and the Water
The surf should carry on as Wednesday left off… around 2 feet and clean. Lighter breezes should mean that the swimming conditions are equally gorgeous on all coasts. Tides will be high in the late mornings… 8.9m and 8.2m respectively. Low water will be in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday or Monday…
