Thursday
Weather
Changes are afoot. First we had Wednesday’s rain… it sure has been a while since we had a good soaking, but such things will be far less rare from Saturday onward, so super-sunny days like this Thursday should be seized with enthusiasm. The WNW’ly breeze will be quite perky in the afternoon (force 4-5), so if you are free to exploit the morning (when it’s just force 2-3) then that would really be the nicest time to go for walks and bike rides etc. The max temp will be 16-17°C in most places, but maybe 18°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
Sloppy 1-2 foot surf. Possibly quite rideable for longboarders in the morning though. The afternoon might be windy enough to entertain the kitesurfers, but swimmers will certainly want to seek shelter, and the east and south coasts will be best for that. Low tide will be at 9am and high tide around 3pm (7.4m).
Friday
Weather
Pleasantly light W’ly breezes throughout the day. This will make the sunshine feel a little warmer, even though the temperature will peak slightly lower than the previous day, just 17°C in most areas, with an outside chance of 18°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf but pretty smooth water for swimmers on all coasts, particularly the east. Tides will be low around 10am and high around 4:10pm (7.9m).
The Weekend
Weather
A little disappointing for everyone who has been looking forward to the weekend, after an almost full week of seeing the sunshine through the windows at work or school. I’m afraid this weekend will be much rougher than of late, with a cloudy and quite breezy Saturday (force 4 increasing force 5 SW’ly), followed by a very wet Saturday night and then a bright and breezy Sunday, with the chance of a few further showers. Max temps will probably be around 16°C on both days, (widely on Saturday, more confined to the sheltered east on Sunday).
Surf and the Water
Probably not surfable on Saturday, but then Sunday’s choppy water should yield some rideable 2-3 foot lumps and bumps. The windsurfing and kitesurfing could be quite good at times (especially late Saturday and early Sunday). Swimming conditions will always be best in the east. Low tides will be around 11am and midday respectively. High tides around 5pm and 6pm respectively.
Next Week
Weather
Remaining similarly unsettled to the weekend, with showers or longer spells of rain each day at least as far as Wednesday. Thursday and Friday might then transition back to a sunny and settled picture, but that’s quite uncertain at the moment, so keep an eye on the next forecast update, to see if those wishes look likely to come true. Max temps likely around 15°C Monday to Wednesday, but hopefully sneaking into the high teens at the backend of the week. With wind mostly W’ly and initially quite strong, Town and Fermain will always be the places feel warmest and to find the best shelter.
Surf and the Water
Choppy but rideable waves every day at least as far as Wednesday, then hopefully something cleaner and of higher quality on Thursday and Friday. Swimming conditions will always be best in the east. Tides will be high in the mornings and evenings. Low tides will be in the early to mid-afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
