Thursday
Weather
A misty and foggy morning, inevitably there will also be a little drizzle where the murk is thickest. By lunchtime the murk should begin to thin out a little, probably becoming dry at that time, but not allowing any sunshine to peep through until late afternoon. The air will be inherently warm, so we should maintain 15-16°C during the murky moments and then pick up to 18 or perhaps even 19°C when the sun eventually makes an appearance. Winds will be lighter than the previous days, but still a bit perkier than ideal… moderate force 4 SW’ly until late afternoon and then light force 3 W’ly in the evening.
Surf and the Water
Maybe enough wind for kitesurfers in the morning, but certainly easing off in the afternoon and evening, making those times best for surfers and swimmers. Waves will be about 2 feet on the west coast, maybe with the off 3 foot set as the tide rises. High water will be around 9am and 9pm (9.1m). Low tide will be at 3:15pm.
Friday
Weather
I’m afraid it’s looking like a repeat of Thursday, in terms of it being mostly cloudy and foggy, with only a brief window of sunshine likely in the latter part of the day. The great thing about this day however, will be its windlessness… variable light force 2 for the most part. Everywhere should feel mild and comfortable, no need to seek shelter on this occasion. Max temps probably the same as onThursday.
Surf and the Water
Another day of 2-3 foot surf, but much cleaner on this occasion, due to the absence of wind. Furthermore, the glassiness of the water will mean that every bay, on every coast, should be equally suitable to go for a sea-swim. High water will be 8.7m at 9:45am. Low water will be at 4pm.
The Weekend
Weather
The wind will be W’ly in direction, much like many recent days. However, Saturday should be almost as light as on Friday (probably force 2-3), and even on Sunday it won’t be nearly as strong as in the early part of this week (probably force 3-4). Weather-wise, Saturday morning is looking as cloudy and misty as the previous days but then the majority of Saturday afternoon and Sunday should be nice and sunny. Max temps will likely be 18°C on Saturday, and then 17°C on Sunday, due to that breeze being slightly stronger.
Surf and the Water
Saturday’s surf should be 2-3 feet and clean, then Sunday’s should pick up to 4 feet by the end of the day, but it will become slightly choppy with it. Saturday will generally be the better swimming day Island-wide, but Sunday will remain good along the east coast. Tides will be high in the late mornings (8.3m and 7.8m respectively) and low in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
It’s looking as though the working week will be bracketed by sunny days on Monday and Friday, but the inbetween days will likely be quite windy and showery. The winds on the sunny days will be very light (NE’ly on Monday and SE’ly on Friday), meaning that it will feel lovely and warm, with temperatures peaking around 18°C on Mondy but possibly getting as high as 22°C on Friday. Tuesday to Thursday will have similar temperatures to Monday but with fresh force 5 SW’ly winds, the only places that really feel as warm will be Town and Fermain. It’s not out of the question that we might see some troublesome fog at the airport Tuesday to Thursday. It’s uncertain at the moment, but if we do end up with some murky moments, then these will probably be in the mornings and in the late evenings.
Surf and the Water
A great week for surfers… likely 4 feet and clean on Monday and Tuesday, 6 feet and semi-clean on Wednesday and Thursday, then 2-3 and pristine on Friday. Tides will be low in the first half of the mornings and high in the first half of the afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
