Thursday
Weather
Perhaps a little brightness mid to late morning, otherwise it’s looking like a very grey and cloudy day, with the odd brief shower in the first half of the day, and then some heavier and more persistent rain in the late afternoon and evening. Max temps 16°C, with a force 4-5 SW’ly wind making it feel cooler than that.
Surf and the Water
2-3 foot waves, clean in the morning but rather weak and sloppy, then slightly choppier in the afternoon. Windsurfing and kitesurfing could be pretty good, especially in the morning. Tides will be low just after 9am and high at 3:15pm (roughly 7m).
Friday
Weather
Sunny intervals and a few showers in the morning and evening. The afternoon should hopefully be dry though, with much longer sunny spells. The wind will be WSW’ly, mostly moderate force 4, but occasionally light force 3 in the afternoon. This means that the east coast will be warmer than the west, with temperatures likely peaking at 17°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 3-4 foot waves in the morning, hopefully becoming quite clean by evening though. Swimming conditions should be quite nice along the east coast during the afternoon, especially at Fermain and at the Bathing Pools. Tides will be low just after 10am and high at 4:10pm (roughly 7.2m).
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday will certainly be the best day for your indoor plans and then Sunday for your outdoor plans. Strong force 6 winds on Saturday (SW’ly gradually veering W’ly), with occasional blustery showers. Sunday will be much finer and drier, with the only shower risk being for the early risers… the longer you stay in bed, the more likely you are to see sunshine and gentler breezes when you eventually get up and draw the curtains. The breeze will be WNW’ly though, so it won’t be brining much heat to the Islands. Max temps will therefore be about 16°C on both Saturday and Sunday (but it will certainly feel nicer on Sunday (especially along the east coast during the afternoon).
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 4-5 foot surf on Saturday morning and then again on Sunday evening. Generally much choppier during the hours inbetween. Saturday will be a pretty epic day for kitesurfers and windsurfers, and then Sunday will become the better day for swimmers. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high towards dinnertime (7.5m and 7.8m respectively).
Next Week
Weather
Sunny and settled on the whole, leading to much higher temperatures… Monday and Tuesday should peak around 19 and 21°C respectively. The heat will be home-grown on those days because there will barely be a breath of wind. Wednesday to Friday will have SE’ly winds though, which will bring significant heat from the continent, meaning that on these days we will probably climb to the mid-twenties or perhaps even the high twenties. Those days will also have the risk of thundery showers in the evenings, but at this stage it’s not possible to work out whether these will hit the Islands or remain over jersey and France. Night time temperatures will be interesting… starting the week with minima as low as 9°C, but finishing the week with overnight temperatures struggling to fall below 14°C,
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-2 foot surf Monday to Wedneday, likely increasing to 3-4 feet for Thursday and Friday. Swimming conditions will be fabulous all week. Tides will be high around breakfast time and in the evenings (increasing incrementally from 7.7m to 8.4m).
The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
