Sunday and Monday
Weather
The foul weather is behind us but the improvement is gradual… sunny for most of Sunday but with relatively cool air on a force 3-4 W’ly breeze, then feeling a little warmer on Monday, with similar amounts of sunshine and that breeze relaxing to a barely detectable force 2 and the max temperature increasing from 17°C to 18°C.
Surf and the Water
Sunday’s surf will be 3-4 feet but sloppy and choppy. Monday’s will still be sloppy but steadily getting cleaner. Swimming conditions will be best in the east on Sunday but pretty good on all coasts through Monday. Tides won’t be huge but the will be getting larger, due to the almost full Strawberry Moon… highs around dawn and dinnertime, increasing incrementally from 7.5m to 8m. Low tides will be close to midday.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
These days will be separated by the fullness of the strawberry moon, and the second day will be decidedly riper than the first. Both days pleasantly sunny, but with Tuesday hanging on to the W’ly airflow of the previous days, and then Wednesday introducing a very warm continental SE’ly. Max temps should jump from 18-19°C on Tuesday, right up to 24-25°C on Wednesday. As many people will know, hot days in France often lead to thunderstorms and the SE’ly wind is one of the best for bringing them in our direction during the night that follows. It’s always hard to predict their precise location, but there will almost certainly be some rumbles and flashes over the Channel on Wednesday night. Overnight mugginess is another thing to be prepared for… with temperatures probably falling no lower than 14°C on Tuesday night and then 16-17°C on Wednesday night.
Surf and the Water
If we do get any waves then they will at least be clean as a whistle. For swimmers, all coasts will be fantastic on Tuesday, but the west will most definitely be best on Wednesday. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dinnertime, increasing incrementally from 7.9m to 8.3m. Low tides will be at lunchtime.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
We will possibly wake up to heavy showers both mornings, with rumbles of thunder quite likely. But the majority of daylight hours should be very warm with a mixture of cloud and hazy sunshine. The SE’ly breeze a bit gentler than on Wednesday, so not brining quite so much of the French heat across to us… the likely max temps being 23°C on Thursday and then 21-22°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Potentially epic small to medium sized surf… super-clean and pretty powerfull, likely 4 feet on Thursday and 3 feet on Friday. Swimming conditions should be lovely on all coasts, but if the S’ly breeze is more substantial than expected then the north and west coasts will be the best places to go. Tides will be high around breakfast time and shortly before dusk, 8.2m in the mornings and 8.5m in the evenings. Low tides will be in the early afternoons.
Next Weekend
Weather
Becoming totally dry and very sunny again, but with the wind returning to a moderate SW’ly on Saturday and then a gentle W’ly on Sunday. Thus completely removing the influence of the nearby continent and returning our temperatures to near normal for mid-June… peaking at roughly 20-21°C by day and then falling to 11-12°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
Still clean but ever-shrinking surf… hopefully still a good 2 feet on Saturday, but most likely just 1 foot or flat on Sunday. Still great for swimming though, with the water temperature hopefully having benefited from the warmth of the air through the week. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (generally a little over 8m) and low in the mid-afternoons.
I’m away on holiday, so I’ll be at the mercy of available wifi, but I expect the next update to be on Wednesday…
