Friday
Weather
Another very warm day of continental breezes, bringing hazy sunshine and the deepening of thunder clouds over France. If those thunderstorms, or at least some kind of associated showers, affect us at all, then it is likely to be in the very late afternoon or evening. The earlier part of the day having really accumulated the heat, with a max temp of 23°C… a force 2-3 E’ly breeze in the morning and then a slightly stronger and cooler feeling NE’ly by mid-afternoon. To continue feeling very warme when that afternoon breeze sets in, simply head down to one of the south-coast beaches.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 3 feet and clean in the morning, then rather choppy in the afternoon. Swimming conditions will be best in the west at first, then increasingly confined to the south coast as the day progresses. Tides will be high at 8:40am and 8:50pm (8.2m and 8.5m respectively). Low tide will be at 2:50pm.
Saturday
Weather
A mostly sunny day, but with temperatures limited to the high teens, due to the wind direction… force 3-4 SW’ly in the morning and then force 2-3 W’ly in the afternoon. Some high cloud will thicken and mute the sunshine at times, but on this occasion there is no threat of it leading to any showers. The most likely max temperature will be 19°C in Town and in the Fermain area, whilst more western parishes are a degree or two cooler. The overnight min will be more refreshing too, probably 11-12°C, rather than the muggy mid-teen figures of the previous nights..
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 2-3 feet and rather choppy in the morning, then 1-2 feet but slightly cleaner in the afternoon. Swimming conditions will be best in the east, but also in one or two sheltered western and northern nooks. Tides will be high at 9:15am and 9:30pm (8.2m and 8.4m respectively). Low tide will be at 3:30pm.
Sunday
Weather
A full day of sunshine, only marginally moderated by a light force 3 WNW’ly breeze, and a little bubbly cloud developing mid-Island and trailing away towards Jerbourg and part-way to Sark. Watch out for sunburn because it could happen very quickly, especially around lunchtime (just like most days this close to Solstice). Temps probably peaking at 19°C, just like Saturday, but maybe dropping to 10-11°C, which is just a degree lower, and for most people this will be more comfortable.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 1-2 feet and semi-clean, due to the wind being onshore but light. Swimming conditions will be good in most places but slightly better in the south and east. Tides will be 8m high around 10am, then low around 4pm.
Next Week
Weather
A week of gorgeously dry and sunny conditions. With the breeze being very light (barely detectable) NE’ly or N’ly. This will allow temperatures to peak in the low to mid-twenties every day, and then drop off to 11-12°C overnight. There’s very little to add to this simple summer forecast on this occasion, except to reiterate that the lunchtime UV index will be at its most intense at this time of year, so outdoor workers, walkers and beach-goers etc should really remember to make extra effort to protect against sunburn.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean surf if we are treated to any. Currently, it looks as though the first half of the week might be ok for longboarders but there is a high chance that it will be flat. The second half of the week however, does promise the possibility of a strong 3-4 foot swell. Swimming conditions will be fabulous throughout, just head to your favourite spot on your favourite tide. High tides will always be close to lunchtime… late morning on Monday and Tuesday, early afternoon by Thursday and Friday (ranging between 7.5m and 7.9m).
I’m away on holiday, so updates are very difficult this week, but I expect the next one to be on Monday…
