Thursday and Friday
Weather
Another couple of scorchers, with E’ly winds (moderate force 4) bringing dry continental air. Clear sky for all expect Thursday evening and night, which will be rather cloudy. The top temperatures will likely be 26°C on Thursday and then 28°C on Friday. Overnight temperatures will be somewhat stifling and uncomfortably high, with minima of around 18°C and 19°C respectively. For the finest beach experiences on both days, the west coast will be the place to go, but the east coast will be slightly better for those who prefer the cooling effect of an onshore breeze.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be super-clean but very small, virtually flat for much of the time but maybe knee-high for longboarders on the odd set. Swimming conditions will be best on the west coast at all times. Tides will be high around 1:15pm Thursday and 2:20pm Friday (7.4m and 7.5m respectively). Low tides will be around breakfast time and then again in the evenings.
Solstice Weekend
Weather
Both days likely to be dry, but the different wind details will bring very different feeling conditions. Saturday’s force 3-4 SE’ly will bring a day that is almost as hot and humid as Friday (the sunshine much hazier though). Sunday’s moderate SW’ly will then bring some sunny spells, but some much lower cloud and therefore the risk of some mist or fog banks. Quite a marked difference in max temperatures… 26-27°C on Saturday, then just 20-21°C on Sunday (the west being warmest on Saturday and the east on Sunday). Thankfully the nights will be cooler than previously, with mins of 15-16°C on Saturday night and then just 14°C on Sunday night.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf… knee to waist-high on Saturday, then gradually falling flat on Sunday. Great swimming conditions on the north coast throughout. Saturday will also be good on the west coast, and Sunday will also be good on the east coast. Tides will be low in the mid-mornings and high in the mid-afternoons (7.7m and 8m respectively).
Next Week
Weather
Winds will be either W’ly or SW’ly, which means the maritime airflow will always be cooler than the continental one of the previous week. It should be mostly dry and partly sunny though. The only threat of showers is in the second half of the week and they will be very hit and miss, so we might end up with nothing at all for our floral and vegetable friends. Daily max temps will always be close to 20°C, nightly mins will always be close to 15°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf won’t be much better than flat on Monday and Tuesday, but the rest of the week should serve up some decent enough waves of waist-high or bigger. Swimming conditions will be good in some west and north coast locations, but the east coast will really be best for that. Tides will be low close to midday initially, then mid-afternoon by the end of the week. High tides will be in the early mornings and then again around dinner time.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
