Wednesday
Weather
A bit of a crazy day to forecast, because some parts of the Island will be plagued by mist and fog while other bask in toasty warm sunshine. Max temps could vary from 19 to 26°C parish to parish. And because there will barely be a breath of wind, nothing is going to change especially quickly. The mist and fog will be thickest during the morning and on windward coasts, but it might last into the afternoon and it might penetrate quite far inland. Although the breeze will be barely noticeable it is expected to be S’ly in the morning, then E’ly in the afternoon and N’ly in the evening, so the coastal fog will tend to circulate the Island. Furthermore, as the day progresses into the night, there will be an increasing risk of heavy showers wandering across the Channel from France. Therefore, by the end of the day, there could be large inter-parish variability in rainfall amounts as well as temperature.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-2 foot surf, mainly in the morning. Excellent swimming conditions, wherever the visibility allows. Tides will be high around 7am and 7:30pm (8.7m and 9m respectively). Low water will be around 1:30pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
There’s a chance of showers on both days, but they will be very few and far between so they might miss us altogether. Furthermore, they will be a lot lighter than the showers that were in the Channel on Wednesday night. Skies will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine on both days, but the cloud will certainly be skewed towards Thursday, whilst the sunshine will show a big preference for Friday. Furthermore, the SW’ly breeze will decrease from moderate force 4 on Thursday to light force 2-3 on Friday, meaning that there should be a noticeable upward temperature trend… 20-21°C for Thursday’s max and then 23-24°C for Friday’s max.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be reasonably clean both days… 1-2 feet on Thursday then 2-3 feet on Friday. Swimming conditions will be best along the north and east coasts, but smooth enough to be enjoyable on the other coasts too. Tides will be high around breakfast time and shortly before dusk (ranging between 8.8m and 9.1m). Low water will be in the early afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s looking like a great weekend for the beach, during both the daytime and the evenings. Some cloudy spells and perhaps the odd bank of sea fog colliding with our coastline from time to time. Otherwise sunny and beautifully warm. Light and variable breezes, with likely max temps around 23-25°C.
Surf and the Water
A great weekend for surfers, mostly 3-4 feet and clean, but possibly 5 feet on Sunday. Superb swimming conditions too (once again avoiding any mist or fog patches). Tides will be high in the mid-mornings and soon after dusk (ranging from 8.5m to 9m). Low water will be in the mid-afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
Hot and sunny Monday and Tuesday, then a likely thundery breakdown on Wednesday, then cooler with pleasant partial sunshine on Thursday and Friday. Mostly very light winds, although there is a chance that the unsettled weather on Thursday may include a bit of a gusty blast. Temperatures likely peaking in the very high twenties through the first half of the week and then the very low twenties in the second.
Surf and the Water
A mixed bag of surf conditions, but it currently looks as though there should be something rideable every day. Lots of northeasterly airflow, albeit generally light, meaning that the south coast will be particularly nice for swimming. Tides will generally be high towards the middle of the day, and low around dawn and dinnertime.
The next forecast update will be on Friday morning…
