Thursday and Friday
Weather
Sunny by day and starry by night… well that describes the sky quite nicely. As for the air around us, that will be bare moving on Thursday, and then gently pulling French air in from the east on Friday morning, and then more vigorously pulling air from the northeast on Friday afternoon and evening. The effect that this will have on temperature is to give us a late peak (4-6pm) on Thursday of 24-26°C, followed by a relatively warm night with a minimum of 16-17°C. On Friday, the top temperature will be about a degree higher, 26-27°C, but it will come in the early afternoon, before the NE’ly breeze cools thing off a little. A muggy night on Friday though, with the temperature falling no lower than 18°C. Take care in the sunshine, the UV index will be strong enough for sunburn between around 10am and 4pm, and particularly intense at lunchtime, when it will peak at a value of 8.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf on Thursday. Maybe (doubtful but possible) 1-2 feet on Friday. Swimming will be lovely on all coasts on Thursday, then loveliest on the west coast on Friday morning and on the south coast on Friday afternoon and evening. Low tides will be around lunchtime. Highs will be around breakfast time and dinner time (increasing incrementally from 7.9m on Thursday morning to 8.6m on Friday evening).
The Weekend
Weather
Sunny, sunny, sunny again, with the UV index peaking at 8 each day. A moderate breeze through most of the weekend… ENE’ly on Saturday, then due E’ly on Sunday. This will mean that Sunday brings more continental heat and therefore hit the highest temperatures… probably a max of 26-27°C on Saturday, then 28°C or maybe even 29°C on Sunday. The west and south coast generally being best for those who love the heat, and the east or north coasts being better for those who crave a modicum of refreshment. Overnight minimums will be high, probably 19°C or maybe even 20°C, so it’s going to feel rather stick and uncomfortable for many, but keeping a big bottle of water on the bedside table should do the trick.
Surf and the Water
Very small surf 1 foot or possibly flat (not at all unusual in July I’m afraid). Amazing weather for swimming and coasteering though, especially on the west coast. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dusk (increasing incrementally from 8.4m on Saturday morning to 8.8m on Sunday evening). Low tides will be close to 3pm.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday will have light to moderate W’ly breezes, and that Atlantic influence will take temperatures back down to normal. Weather-wise, there will be some sunny spells but there will also be quite a bit of cloud due to the humidity. That cloud being low enough for mist or hill-fog at times, perhaps thick enough for a few drizzle moments (the plants will be grateful). After that, the second half of the week looks set to return to high pressure and heat… daily max temperatures jumping from the very low twenties to the very high twenties, as the very gentle breeze becomes a SE’ly, possibly bringing some French thunderstorms by the end of Friday.
Surf and the Water
The surf is showing a tiny bit of promise, thanks to some lows in the Atlantic. The lows will be shallow though so the waves will be small at best. However, the wind direction looks fantastic from Wednesday onward, so it’s worth hanging on to a little bit of hope. Tides will be waning with the moon, with the highs reducing from 8.5m mid-morning Monday to 7.8m lunchtime Friday
The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
