Wednesday
Weather
A misty murky day with drizzle in the morning but increasingly dry in the second half of the day and overnight. Temperatures will be mild for the night time and for sunless daylight hours. But the max of 19°C will no doubt be very disappointing for most of us. Winds will be moderate force 4 W’ly, only easing to light force 3 towards dusk, and then further easing to light force 2 during the night time. Town will be the most comfortable area, especially later in the day. Other relatively pleasant spots include Fermain, Pleinmont and Bordeaux.
Surf and the Water
Rather choppy 4 foot surf, good fun for surfing though, and even more fun for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Swimmers will want to stick to the shelter of the east coast or perhaps by the wall at Pembroke. High tide will be 8.3m at 11am and low tide will be at 5:20pm.
Thursday
Weather
Although starting off as grey and misty as Wednesday, we should at least be spared the drizzle and the wind will be almost entirely absent. With that lack of wind, there won’t be the constant replenishment of moisture, so when the sun reaches a decent height above the horizon it should poewer through the cloud quite quickly, allowing us to enjoy some brightness and warmth by lunchtime and then some very pleasant 23°C heat in the mid to late afternoon. All areas lovely but probably finest of all on the south and east coasts.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 1-3 foot surf on the west coast, a bit lacking in power but fun for longboarders and learners. Swimming/kayaking/paddleboarding conditions should be lovely and smooth on all other coasts. Tides will be 8.1m high at 11:50am and low around 6pm.
Friday
Weather
Dappled hazy sunshine, along with one or two cloudy spells. Gorgeously light winds though, generally coming from the north so feeling especially calm on the south coast. Temperatures should peak around 23°C again, but the nights will be cooler with mins of about 15°C around dawn and then again after dusk. Speaking of after dusk, some heavy thundery showers are expected to wander from France to England, probably giving Normandy an absolute deluge, but there is a slim chance that this could be the case for Guernsey as well. Keep an eye on the forecast because a few brief showers would be lovely for our gardens, but if it’s too intense then it could be quite damaging.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-3 foot surf on the west coast, once again ideal for longboarders and learners. Swimming/kayaking/paddleboarding conditions should be lovely and smooth on all other coasts. Tides will be 7.8m high at 12:40pm and low around 6:30am and 7pm.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s very uncertain but it currently looks like pleasant partial sunshine by day and then heavy showers and quite strong S’ly winds by night. Daytime winds should be gentle enough to let the sun heat the land, taking us to maxima of roughly 21-22°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean west-coast surf both days… only about 2 feet on Saturday but then cranking up to 6 feet on Sunday. There is a slim chance that the strong winds of Saturday night could spill into daylight hours, meaning that there could be some decent windsurfing or kitesurfing conditionds too. Tides will be low around breakfast time and high in the early afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
Most likely remaining unsettled and changeable in the first half of the week, before high pressure returns us to more classical summer weather in the second half. Forecasts of this range are always uncertain though, so keep an eye on the updates.
Surf and the Water
In keeping with the trend from unsettled weather to settled, the waves are likely to be good for surfers on Monday and then perhaps have fallen flat by Thursday or maybe even as soon as Wednesday. It should be an improving story for swimmers and paddle-boarders though. High tides will initially be pre-dawn and late afternoon. However, by Friday, they will have bumped forward to be near breakfast time and dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
