Sunday
Weather
A mostly cloudy day, but not without a few holes here and there, allowing some soft sunshine in places. The air will be ingerently warm, coming to us on a force 3-4 WSW’ly breeze, so temperatures will easily reach a widespread 20°C and a niche 21°C in St Peter Port. So that’s warmer than Saturday, despite being far less sunny. Moving into the evening, things are likely to turn misty and drizzly but probably not soon enough to worry about airport disruption… the worst of the murk will probably be around midnight.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be a choppy version of flat, but kitesurfers might just find enough breeze to play with. East coast swimming will probably be the activity of choice (with Pembroke being equally nice around high tide). Low water will be at 7:30am, then high wil be just 6.5m at 1:45pm.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Sunday night’s murk will likely be chased away by a moderate SW’ly wind, further cranking to a fresh force 5 WSW’ly in the afternoon, before a band of rain crosses the Islands in the evening and the wind then veers NW’ly. So yes, it's windier than most of us would like it to be, but nothing like as strong as it was threatening to be in previous weather models. As for Monday’s weather and temperature… pretty much the same as Sunday’s. Tuesday will be quite a lot sunnier but also quite a bit cooler. This will be due to the NW’ly airflow… force 4-5 around dawn, relaxing to light force 3 by dusk. Actual temperatures will probably be 22°C for the Monday max, 15°C for the Monday night min, 20°C for the Tuesday max, then 13°C for the Tueday night min.
Surf and the Water
The surf will gradually increase through Monday, from dawn flatness to 2-3 foot choppiness by dusk. Tuesday will be the better day, with a solid 3-4 foot swell… horribly choppy around dawn but probably quite clean by dusk. Swimming conditions will be best on the east coast throughout. However, Monday will be ok in some western and northern nooks, and Tuesday will be lovely on the south coast too. Low tides will be at 8:55am Monday and 10:15am Tuesday. High tides will be 6.6m at 3:10pm Monday and 6.8m at 4:30pm Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
These are the lovelier days that we’ve been looking forward to. Climaxing with a brief hike into the mid-twenties, probably a modest 21-22°C but feeling gorgeous on Wednesday, with hazy sunshine and the ENE’ly breeze no stronger than light force 2. Then we will jump up to about 24°C on Thursday, as the breeze (just as light) tilts round to a continental S’ly. Both days likely dry, although there is the slight chance that Thursday evening could bring a thundery shower from the west… much more likely to miss us though.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean surf… 2-3 feet Wednesday, 1-2 feet Thursday. Gorgeous swimming and paddle-boarding conditions on all coasts. High tides will be around dawn and dinnertime (increasing from 6.9m on Wednesday morning to 7.9m on Thursday evening. Low tides will be at 11:20am and 12:15pm respectively.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
Winds will veer to a moderate SW’ly by Friday morning and then sunshine and showers will be the order of the day. The air still on the warm side but, without any continental influence, we can only expect about 22°C for the max. Saturday and Sunday will then be dry and partly sunny, with the SW’ly relaxing to light force 2-3, so maxima of 23-24°C are likely on those days (unless there are any major changes).
Surf and the Water
The surf will most likely be 2-3 feet and rather sloppy throughout, but there will be times when the onshore wind is light enough for a glass-off. Swimming will generally be best on the east coast, but again the west coast will become much smoother when the wind is calmest. High tides will be at breakfast time and in the evenings (increasing form 8m on Friday morning to 9.1m on Sunday evening). Low tides will be in the early afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Monday Tuesday…
