The Weekend
Weather
Sunny and very warm, but also very windy, so it will be necessary to find shelter if you want to sunbathe comfortably or enjoy a great beach-gathering. The windiest moments will probably be Saturday afternoon and evening. Sunday doesn’t look quite so blustery, except perhaps in the evening. The direction of the wind will be ENE’ly, so the most sheltered beaches will be the northern corners of the west-coast bays and the eastern corners of the south-coast bays. Max temps will be 24°C and 25°C respectively. Min temps will be 17-18°C around dawn.
Surf and the Water
Some rideable knee-high waves are likely on Saturday, especially in the morning, but the cross-offshore wind will do it’s absolute best to spoil things. Sunday then looks totally flat I’m afraid. The wind will also be too strong for such things as paddleboarding, but probably just right for kite-srufing and windsurfing. Swimmers will find the best conditions around high tide, when the west and south coast walls/cliffs offer the best shelter. Highs will be around midday on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday. Lows will be soon after dawn and again at dinnertime.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
All three days will have some sunny spells but generally be cloudier than the weekend, but the winds will be a tad lighter, so that should balance out to give similar max and min temperatures… probably 25°C, 24°C and 23°C respectively for the maxima, and roughly 18°C for the minima. There will be some heavy showers and thunderstorms in the area (mainly but not exclusively over France) so there’s a chance that we will catch a few of these, especially on Tuesday. Winds will be force 3-4 E’ly on Monday, veering NE’ly through Tuesday and then NNE’ly through Wednesday.
Surf and the Water
Perhaps some knee-high waves on Wednesday, but most likely flat on Monday and Tuesday. Swimming conditions will be best along the west and south coasts, especially around the time of high water (2:30pm, 4:20pm and 5pm respectively). Low water will be at 8:20am, 10am and 11:30pm respectively.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Mostly sunny and dry again, with force 3-4 NE’ly breezes taking Thursday’s temperature to about 22-23°C, then force 2 NE’ly breezes taking Friday’s temperature to 24-25°C. Just like every day of later (with this wind direction), The south coast will probably be the nicest for some beach time on Thursday. However, with such light winds on Friday, all the other coasts should be just as lovely then.
Surf and the Water
We might see the first long-period waves from Hurrican Erin arrive by Thursday evening, and then we shall certainly see some pretty solid swell on Friday, size and quality uncertain at the moment, but something like ‘6 feet and clean’ is quite possible. Swimming conditions will be best on the south coast, but winds will often be light enough to give smooth conditions on the other coasts too. High tides wil be at breakfast time and dinnetime (increasing incrementally from 7.9m to 8.9m). Low tides will be at lunchtime.
The next forecast update will most likely be on Sunday or Monday…
