Monday
Weather
A mostly sunny day, with winds coming from the WSW, so not brining especially warm air, but also not blowing hard enough to make it feelvery chilly… force 3-4 in the morning, then just force 2-3 in the afternoon and evening. Temps will probably peak at 20°C, but 21°C is not out of the question in Town.
Surf and the Water
A 3-4 foot swell, with a cross-onshore wind that will actually be getting lighter and therefore making the west coast better for surfing and swimming as the day progresses. However, in the morning, when winds are more perky, then swimmers will definitiely find that the east coast is best. Following that full moon, and just a fortnight shy of the equinox, tides will be pretty whopping… highs will be 9.2m at 7:50am and then 9.7m at 8pm. Low water will be just after 2pm.
Tuesday
Weather
A strengthening S’ly wind… force 3-4 in the morning, then force 4-5 in the afternoon and evening. Skies will be bright at times but mostly cloudy. Slim chance of a shower in the morning, slimmer still in the afternoon, but then we will see a spell of more prolonged rain between dusk and midnight. Temperatures will probably peak around 20°C again, but if we do manange 21°C anywhere then it will probably be around L’Ancresse on this occasion.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be super-clean but only 2 feet. Swimming conditions will be best on the north coast or in the southern corners of the west-coast bays. The biggest tides of the month (October promises to be slightly bigger)… highs will be 9.5m at 8:30am and then 9.9m at 8:45pm. Low water will be just shy of 3pm.
Wednesday
Weather
A wet and windy day on the whole. Perhaps the odd ray of sunshine slipping through a crack in the cloud-sheet at times, but we will mostly be looking at showery rain, brought close to horizontal by a strengthening SSW’ly wind… force 4 to start the day and force 5-6 to finish. Temperatures probably won’t exceed 19°C on this occasion.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 3 foot waves for west-coast surfers. For swimmers, the wind direction will favour the north and east coasts. High water will be around 9am and 9:20pm (9.6m and 9.8m respectively). Low water will be around 3:30pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Two days of blustery showers, with force 5 WSW’ly winds bringing cool air (max temps 18°C in most places, but maybe just touching 19°C in Town). Cool air and mild seas always leads to fairly strong convection, in other words we can expect some pretty heavy showers, especially on Friday. And,now that we are moving into autumn and the sun isn’t climbing so high in the sky, we will probably see a few more pretty rainbows too.
Surf and the Water
Surfers will have choppy but rideable conditions to take or leave (4-6 feet). Windsurfers and kitesurfers will have the best time on the north and west coasts, whilst swimmers find suitable shelter on the east. Tides will be shrinking slightly and slowly… 9.5m on Thursday moring and evening, then roughly 9m on Friday morning and evening. Lows will be in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weathera
Even wetter and windier I’m afraid, with force 6-7 winds (SSW’ly on Saturdqay then WSW’ly on Sunday) bringing lots of showers and very few (if any) sunny intervals. Temperatures might climb as high as 20°C though, due to some slightly warmer air being dragged up from the Bay of Biscay.
Surf and the Water
The winds will be strong enough to really excite the windsurfers and kitesurfers but to make life difficult for surfers. The waves will be pretty clean on Saturday and then increasingly choppy through Sunday, probably shrinking to 3 feet by Sunday morning, but then increasing again to 6 feet or bigger by Sunday evening. Tides will be high in the late mornings (8.5m and 7.9m respectively) and low around dinnertime.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
