Tuesday
Weather
A pretty breezy day, but nowhere near as rough as Monday was, and far fewer showers too. The W’ly wind will be at the top end of moderate force 4, and the showers will be mostly (perhaps entirely) confined to the morning. With mostly cloudy skies, but a few pleasant sunny intervals, we should reach a max temperature of about 16°C in Town and about 15°C everywhere else. Overnight, the wind will fall light which would lead to a low temperature, but at the same time a blanket of cloud will spread across the area, so we probably won’t see anything cooler than 12°C.
Surf and the Water
Choppy surf all day, marginally cleaner in the morning than the afternoon… 6 feet shrinking to 4 feet. Not bad conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Swimming will be best left to the east coast. Big tides (very splashy out west). Highs will be 9.2m around 7:15am and around 7:30pm. Low tide will be around 1:30pm.
Wednesday
Weather
There’s a small chance of rain early morning, and then a more definite spell of quite heavy rain late afternoon and evening, but the rest of the day will probably be dry and settled, with a mixed bag of cloud and weak sunshine. The wind will be beautifully light to start the day (a light force 2 S’ly), and then quite brisk to finish (a fresh force 5 SW’ly). The night time will be the roughest period, with the wind really strengthening... strong force 7 to gale force 8 W’ly, bringing frequent heavy showers. Daytime max temp 16°C again. Overnight min 11°C.
Surf and the Water
The cleanest day of surf by a long shot even though it won’t be big… just 2 feet. Swimming will be good on all coasts in the morning, then best on the north and the east during the afternoon. High tides will be about 9.3m at 7:45am and at 8pm. Low tide will be just after 2pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A couple of windy days... strong F6-7 NW’ly on Thursday, then force 5-6 W’ly on Friday. This will bring a mix of sunshine and showers, the majority of the showers falling in the mornings and through the night time. Temperatures will be on the low side and the wind-chill will make them feel much lower again… actual maxima around 14°C, feels like maxima only 9-10°C. Night time temps won’t be as low as they could be, due to the strength of the wind, bringing the influence of the relatively mild seas. Min temps will probably be about 11°C.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be around breakfast time and late evening, dropping off incrementally from about 9.3m on Thursday morning to about 8.8m on Friday evening. The surf will be very messy in the usual places, but threre might be a half-decent wave along the south-coast on Thursday if you’re prepared to have a look. Swimming conditions will only be worth considering along the east coast in general, but perhaps also the south coast on Thursday.
The Weekend
Weather
Force 4-5 NW’ly winds will bring sunshine and showers on Saturday… heavily tipped in favour of the sunshine. Sunday will then have lighter winds… force 3-4 W’ly, but the skies will be much cloudier, with rain or drizzle becoming persistent. Max temps 13-15°C. Min temps 11-13°C. (Town always feeling the least chilly).
Surf and the Water
Very messy surf, unless perhaps there is something rideable down south. Swimming conditions will generally be best out east, but they could be good down south on Saturday as well. Tides will be high around breakfast time (don’t forget there’s a clock change on Saturday night). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
