Thursday
Weather
Mixed cloud and sunshine, cloudiest in the morning and sunniest in the afternoon. The SSE’ly wind will be reducing as well, from the top end of moderate force at dawn to light fore 3 by dusk. Making for a pretty gorgeous afternoon, with the temperature climbing quite easily to 16°C. A cooler evening though, with temperatures falling to about 11-12°C, before bouncing back to around 13°C later in the night.
Surf and the Water
Another day of fantastically clean 3-4 foot waves, very similar to Wednesday but with an easier wind for surfers, but not so special for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Swimming conditions will be best at L’Ancresse or in the west-coast bays with a bit of shelter from the waves, such as Cobo. High tides will be about 9.8m high at 6:30am and 7pm, so pretty splashy on the east coast as well as the west. Low tide will be at 1pm.
Friday
Weather
A mild but cloudy and fairly windy morning (force 4-5 S’ly), with rain through late morning and lunchtime. Sunny spells increasing through the afternoon though, with the wind gradually reducing to a force 3-4 SW’ly, meaning that we will probably hit our max temp of 16°C around 3 or 4pm. Super-clear skies and further decreasing winds will make for a relatively chilly night though… 10-11°C for the min.
Surf and the Water
Another day of super-clean waves! How can this be? November I guess. It will be a tad smaller though… only 2-3 feet on this occasion. Winds will be slightly better for windsurfers and kitesurfers though. High tides will be about 9.9m high at 6:30am and 9.7m at 7:40pm, on both coasts, especially in the morning. Low tide will be at 1:45pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Gorgeously light W’ly breezes and mostly sunny skies on Saturday. Then Sunday will hang on to the sunny skies for the morning and lunchtime, before turning cloudy in the afternoon and then very wet in the evening. Sunday will be the breeziest day, with a moderate force 4 SSW’ly, increasing to fresh force 5 SSE’ly. Daytime max temperatures will be 14-15°C both days. Nightly minima will be about 11°C and 13°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf forecast remains excellent for experts, and there will likely be some opportunities for beginners and intermediates on Saturday afternoon and throughout Sunday. Size-wise, the west-coast waves will increase from 3-4 feet at dawn to 6-8 feet by dusk, then remain that large throughout Sunday. Quality-wise, both days will be clean because Saturday’s onshore will be very light and because Sundays stronger wind will be nicely offshore. High tides will be at breakfast time and in the mid-evenings, reducing incrementally from 9.6m to 8.6m. Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
Monday will have pleasantly slack winds but quite a lot of rain. Tuesday, lovely and sunny in the morning but with cloudier skies and a brisker wind in the afternoon. Then the rest of the week will be dominated by moderate to fresh SE’ly winds (perhaps occasionally strong) bringing pleasantly mild air under mostly cloudy skies, with just the odd shower possible but rather improbable. Daytime maxima will be around 15-16°C and nightly minima will be around 12-13°C.
Surf and the Water
Whopping great waves on Monday and Tuesday, medium sized Wednesday and Thursday, then likely small again by Friday. Once again, the winds should be pretty much perfectly offshore throughout. Tides will be high mid-morning Monday and Tuesday, then around lunchtime through the rest of the week, shrinking incrementally from about 8.6m on Monday to 7.4m on Friday.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening or Saturday morning…
