Monday
Weather
After the respite of Sunday, we will go into a mega-wet and windy Monday, with strong force 6 to 7 S’ly winds and cloudy skies all day. The rain will be light and intermittent in the morning, but persistent and increasingly heavy in the afternoon. The climax in both wind and rain being around sunset and for an hour or two beyond. Through the night time, the wind will be moderate and veer SW’ly, bringing an alternating sequence of starry skies and heavy showers. Temperatures will be steady around 12°C and 10°C by night. The wind and rain will make it feel quite a lot cooler though.
Surf and the Water
Best of all for windsurfers and kitesurfers, but some surfers will also enjoy the super-clean 3-4 footers, despite the difficulty of paddling against such a strong offshore wind. Tides will be low around 9am and roughly 8.1m high around 3pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Sunshine and showers (few and far-between but some of them on the heavy side), along with moderate force 4 SW’ly winds, giving us two relatively mild days, with similar max temps to Monday (12°C), but much less in the way of wind-chill, so therefore feeling pretty pleasant, especially in sheltered areas such as Town and Fermain in the east, or Pleinmont and Richmond in the west. The nights will be relatively mild too, with an min of 8-9°C on Tuesday night and then 9-10°C on Wednesday.
Surf and the Water
A couple of reasonably clean surf days of 6-8 foot waves on the west coast, and hopefully some 2-3 foot waves on the north coast as well. Swimming conditions will be best in the late afternoons, especially on the east coast, but not bad up on the north coast too. Low water will be in the late mornings and high water will be around dusk (8.5m and 8.9m respectively).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
After the arrival of rain on Wednesday night, Thursday will probably be sopping wet through the first half of the morning, and then return to the familiar sequence of sunshine and showers for the rest of the day. Friday is a little bit uncertain, with a soggy little low pressure expected to pass over northern France, most likely missing us and therefore leaving us with light winds and cloudy but dry weather. However, it would only take a slight displacement of this little weather system to give us a much less settled day than that. Keep an eye on the forecast updates to see how that story develops. Both days should be on the mild side though, with force 3-4 WSW’ly winds taking Thursday to another 12°C max, then Friday rising to anything between 11 and 13°C depending on the finer details.
Surf and the Water
Thursday may be a good lay-day for surfers, with it’s rather choppy 3-4 foot waves being a poor show compared to what will most likely be an incredible day on Friday. The wind strength and direction is not too certain at the moment, but it looks most likely to be a gentle offshore breeze, airbrushing an impressively powerful 8 foot swell. Take care if you are keen to get in the water… beginners and intermediates would be encouraged to either stay dry or to stick to the more moderate waves of L’Ancresse. Tides will be high shortly before sunrise and after sunset (ranging between 9.1m and 9.5m, so potentially quite troublesome along the west coast). Low tide will be around lunchtime.
The Weekend
Weather
It currently looks as though Saturday will be the nastiest day, with strong force 6 WSW’ly winds bringing frequent showers, albeit with mild air keeping the temperature steady at 12°C. Town should be well sheltered from the wind, so that will be the best place to hang out on that day. For your Sunday, it looks as though the wind will back to a much lighter and therefore more comfortable SSW’ly, so a max of 13°C will once again be possible on that day. I can’t promise that Sunday will be dry and bright though, as it currently looks likely to be misty and drizzly at times.
Surf and the Water
The big and powerful surf will continue through Saturday, albiet probably much messier than the previous day. Sunday looks marginally smaller but quite a lot cleaner, although such detail is highly uncertain at 6-7 days range. Tides will be high around dawn and mid-evening… decreasing incrementally from about 9.6m on Saturday morning to 9.2m on Sunday evening. Low tides will be in the early afternoons.
Apologies but I'm currently sick with the flu. The next forecast update will be as soon as I'm feeling well enough…
